Yoga for Babies and Those Who Love Them

Because of the special nature of these classes and the difficulty in putting together a schedule that works for everyone, I am not currently offering them publicly. Please get in touch for more information about Wee OnesTM birthday parties or a special class for your play group.

I began teaching mommy and me yoga in 2004, and became a Certified Itsy Bitsy Yoga Facilitator in 2006. In 2012, I earned a certificate from the state of North Carolina in Early Childhood Education. I have combined my knowledge of early childhood development and my study of various baby yoga and massage techniques with postnatal yoga into a unique program I call Wee OnesTM Yoga. Wee OnesTM classes are for newborns up to 4 years old, accompanied by a grown-up.

I love children and these are very special and rewarding classes. It is a real privilege to get to know the parents and their babies, to watch them grow, and to see the beautiful unfolding of their personalities.

Experts agree that good health and exercise habits need to be established at an early age. The first-ever physical activity guidelines for children from birth to age 5 were set forth in 2002 by the National Association of Sports and Physical Education (NASPE).

The NASPE guidelines state:

"Infants should interact with parents and/or caregivers in daily physical activities that promote and help facilitate the development of an infant's movement skills ... Toddlers should accumulate at least 30 minutes daily of structured physical activity; preschoolers at least 60 minutes. Toddlers and preschoolers should engage in at least 60 minutes and up to several hours per day of unstructured physical activity."

Research shows that most babies, toddlers, and young children do not meet these daily exercise requirements. Children need to build a solid physical repertoire during infancy and toddler-hood in order to grow a life-long appreciation for good health and a desire to participate in physical activity. Doing Wee OnesTM Yoga with your child establishes the foundation for a lifetime of healthy practices.

Wee OnesTM Babies

Newborn to almost crawling

babies

Wee OnesTM Baby classes combine baby yoga and massage with postnatal yoga.

The yoga you do with your baby will encourage bonding, improve baby's sleep and digestion, and enhance motor and neuromuscular development. Babies get to interact with other babies and grown-ups with other grown-ups.

Our focus for mom (and other grown-ups) is to strengthen over-stretched core muscles and release over-tight shoulders. We also take the time in each class to seek advice and share tips and tricks before our relaxation period.

Wee OnesTM Pre

From 2 years up to 4 years

toddlers

When your toddler is walking and ready to take direction more on his or her own, it's time to join the Wee OnesTM Pre (short for Toddlers and Preschoolers).

Grown-ups may assist their toddler or toddlers may want to practice on their own.

As your toddler becomes more independent, he or she may prefer to practice alongside you.

Toddlers and preschoolers enjoy partnering with their caregivers. We also inspire cooperation by encouraging them to to practice with other toddlers and with their siblings. Twins are always welcome in Wee OnesTM classes.

We incorporate some Pre-Grounded* partner and group poses into our Wee Toddlers & Preschooler classes. We sing songs, play yoga games, and learn simple breathing exercises.
